The Sigma Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered in Jonesboro, Arkansas on December 12, 2000. At that time there was no graduate chapter of Zeta within a thirty-five-mile radius. Recent graduate Zetas needed an outlet to continue serving the community. The charter members of Sigma Gamma Zeta are Lashana Clay, Parice Tyler-Bowser, Jacqueline Gilbert, Teresa Jones, Dana Callaway, Patricia Walls, Tara Arnold, and Tabitha Wallace.
Throughout the years of service, the chapter created various partnerships that helped them provide service to the Jonesboro community for which it was chartered, along with the rest of Craighead County. Continuing these partnerships and acts of service, the chapter felt compelled to expand its charter service area to officially include all of Craighead County. The chapter was granted an official charter expansion in May of 2024.
The ladies of Sigma Gamma Zeta have hosted and participated in various events that are part of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. initiatives, as well as events that affect the city of Jonesboro and Craighead County community. Such events include:
Adopt a School
A national initiative designed to increase academic achievement among minority students and narrow the academic gap by improving parent and family involvement, providing tutoring opportunities, decreasing tardiness and absenteeism, and heightening the motivation to learn.
ElderCare
A national initiative designed to provide quality, compassionate assistance and monitoring to participants with their daily living, cognitive and physical fitness, stimulating communication, interaction, and socialization to enhance their quality of life and promote their independence.
March for Babies

The ladies of Sigma Gamma Zeta also participate in March for Babies to raise awareness. As part of the national initiative, Sigma Gamma Zeta attends a religious organization in the community, with the approval of the religious leader, and provides awareness about prematurity to the congregation.
